MacBook, here I come
Today was MacWorld’s KeyNote, an annual event when Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple announces major hardware and software releases for the year. At last year’s KeyNote, he announced the Mac Mini, of which I bought 2 as soon as the Apple store would let me. I’ve grown quite attached to mine, and my Mom still loves hers.
So today, as I watched the near-realtime feeds from MacRumorsLive.com via IRC, I got my credit card ready, and the Apple Store website ready in another window. As Steve went through the iPod, and then iLife ‘06, and other software, I started to lose interest. I wanted a new Laptop, and I wanted Apple to deliver. Sure enough, with 10 minutes left to go, Apple announced the MacBook Pro’s, Intel Core Duo powered 15″ laptops. Bingo. 20 minutes of research and comparing options between the 1.6 and 1.8ghz, and in went the CC# and out popped an order for a 1.8ghz MacBook Pro, with 1gb ram, the 100gb 7200rpm drive, and AppleCare. I stopped at the 22″ Apple Display… I want one, but the Dell 24″ is much cheaper, and has some other cool features (More on those later).
So now, I just wait until Feb 15th when they ship. Frustrating, but it will be worth it. The MacMini will be turned into a media center box, via Apple’s Front Row, which has been hacked to work G4’s, and machines without the remote control.
